We have been participating for more than 50 years in the model hobby industry and have designed and manufactured various submarine model kits since 1979.
The ENGEL submarine fleet has grown ever since due to innovative concepts and consequent product research, development and improvement of this line of model kits.
Our main focus is on designing these kits as complete as possible offering a variety of options and accessories suitable for each model.
All Engel submarine kits include a handmade glassfiber hull, complete drive units with motors and running gear with shafts, props etc. as well as all necessary components for built-up of the model (such as seals, bolts, screws etc.).
Furthermore, all Engel kits include a mechanically fully assembled diving system which allows the model to submerge without movement (static diving).
The standard diving system of almost all Engel model submarines consists of 2 Piston Tanks (exept "Lafayette" which takes a single tank) and a switch unit with pressure switch (as safety device).
Engel Piston Tanks offer the advantage of operating at regular atmosphere not requiring supplementary air-intake by snorchels or gas containers (which are unreliable and might even be hazardous) for resurfacing. Furthermore, operation times are only restricted by battery capacity - with a 10Amp battery (which is standard in boat models) running time of the model is well over 1 hour!
Piston Tanks require a hermetically sealed compartment ("WTC=water tight compartment"). All Engel submarine fulfill this requirement by either single-hull design ("Lafayette" or "Patrick Henry") or a socalled Middle-Deck which is glued into the lower hull as WTC.
