U19 Type 206 |
 |
The German type 206 is a single hull submarine. Due to its favourable shape this type only requires 25% drive rating for reaching equivalent speeds compared to its more historic counterparts. The dome at its bow consists of sonic permeable material and encloses highly developed, wide angle listening devices. Compact dimensions and good manoeuvrability allow operation even in shallow waters. Its wire-controlled torpedoes have a range of 15 kilometres. In order to protect the boat against mines and minimise detection by so called MAD sensors the hull is made of antimagnetic steel.
Model
U19 is held in 1/32 scale and approx. 1.5 meters long. The rudder is made to scale and positioned behind the propeller. This design, just as on its original counterpart, allows the turning radius to be held at a minimum. The rudder carrier resembles the originals robustness for withstanding even stronger impacts without serious damage. Equipped with two Piston Tanks deliver authentic diving manoeuvres. Prefabrication of parts and a relatively simple interior setup allow the proficient modeller an efficient assembly.
As all ENGEL submarines the U19 and its diving system are chloride and salt water proof.
Hull Unit
The hull unit is made of hand-laminated glass fibre, highly detailed, and as all Engel Models very robust. The min. thickness of the lower hull is approx. 2 mm. The upper hull is a bit lighter so that this part can be place easier into the lower hull structure. The flooding vents are scribed, allowing easy location of the (very few!) necessary openings to be drilled.
The WTC (Water Tight Compartment) is reinforced by steel inlays and houses all technical components such as diving system, main drive, batteries and R/C. The WTC has an opening measuring 560 x 75 mm allowing access to the interior parts. This hatch is closed by a 3 mm thick aluminium plate sealed with a rubber gasket.
Rudders and Dive Planes
This set includes rudder, dive planes and the rudder carrier, all cast in resin and fitted with the necessary bores for accepting the shafts. The fins for the conning tower are CNC machined.
Main Drive
The model is powered by a 6V electric motor with pre-assembled, ball raced gear box. Included in this set are the prop shaft, gasket, coupling and 5-blade cloverleaf brass propeller.
Diving System
The kit comes complete with the thousandfold approved diving system "Preisenhammer", consisting of two Piston Tanks with a total volume of 1000 ml, electronic switch unit, pressure switch as well as all necessary cables and connectors.
Kit includes:
Complete superstructure made of GRP: upper hull with moulded conning tower, lower hull, middle deck and rear bulk head
Drive motor with ball raced gear box, assembled
Drive shaft, coupling and 5-blade cloverleaf propeller, all made of brass
Rudder carrier, rudder and dive planes made of resin
All necessary accessories, such as links, screws, gaskets, tubings etc.
Ballast weight approx. 3.5 kg (rolled lead)

Diving System with two piston tanks, electronic switch unit, pressure switch, tubes, cables and connectors
U19 is available in 2 versions:
kit with Diving System TAE item no. 1598-TAE
kit with Diving System Tmax item no. 1598-TMX
The standard version of the kit also includes the complete diving system consisting of two Piston Tanks with 750 ml each and an electronic switch unit TAE featuring the AutoStop and AutoTrim device.
AutoStop means, that the pumps stop automatically as soon as the tanks are fully emptied or filled.
AutoTrim allows you to bring the model manualy into a state of perfect buoyancy.
In addition, the TAE System incorporates a Fail Safe device which means, that the model emerges as soon as the R/C command is interrupted for longer than approx. 4 seconds.
Furthermore, System type TAES is based on Type TAE but incorporates a Static Depth Controller in addition.
System type TAE can be operated by a control stick on your transmitter or (better) an ON/OFF/ON switch (via a proportional channel).
For system type TAES a single proportional slider becomes necessary.
System type Tmax offers proportional control of both Piston Tanks. This newly developped version allows for a new dimension for controlling a static diving model submarine.
The Tmax System can be operated via one, two or three R/C channels. However, in order to enjoy the entire functionality of this unit three proportional R/C channels are necessary. This setup will require an analog switch (3 positions: on/off/on) and two proportional slider switches, all to be operated via genuine proportional channels.
For the TmaxS version this setup is an absolut must have.
Therefore, for less sophistiated R/C systems we recommend system type TAE. For computerised R/C transmitters which allow for installation of two slider switches and offer at least six proportional channels system type Tmax is first choice.
All switch units, regardless of system type, are pre-soldered and ready-to-run. All diving systems including the ballast tanks and the switch units have passed rigorous quality and functional checks.
FURTHER OPTIONS
Conning Tower Mechanism item no. 1598-1
A conning tower mechanism is optionally available. This feature allows you to drive the periscope, radar and antenna in and out of the conning tower. This kit includes all necessary components, including ready-made brass soldered slide, periscopes, antennas and electric motor with geared drive.
Rotating Radar and Observer item no. 1598-2
With this option the radar (included in item no. 1598-1) can be rotated. Furthermore, an observer searches the horizon with binoculars. This kit includes all mechanical parts as well as the observer (unpainted). This option requires item no. 1598-1 and a standard size servo.
